it reminds me of the fairytale. where a young girl is lost in the forest, and she sees an owl, and asks it, "do you know where my mother is?". and the owl responds "why the hell would i know where your mother is? are you stupid? and why are you fairytale children getting lost in forests and hallucinating animals that can talk" and then the owl swooped down and ripped the little girls face off and ate her eyeballs. and then the owl hooted. hoo hoo

It is round, like a ball. The back is rounded. The eyes are like spindle whorls; shiny. It has horns of feathers. The head is ball-like, round; the feathers thick, heavy. It is blinded during the day. It is born in crags, in trees. It feeds by night, because it sees especially well in the dark. It has a deep voice when it hoots; it says, tecolo, tecolo, o, o.
i had a sociology class with this girl a few years ago, and she was an immigrant from india. she taught me that owls are a symbol of foolishness over there, but they're seen as a symbol of intelligence here in the west. i thought that was really interesting, how different yet similar our cultural symbolism is. assuming she wasn't fucking with me, of course. i treasure that interaction either way.
PEAKKKKK one of the best birds truly. they are so unique and cool and their cultural significance is really interesting
