fresh tomatoes are an excellent grocery, though somewhat limited in their applications because of their relative specificity compared to other vegetables (such as cucumber, which is delightful eaten raw on its own unlike most store bought tomatoes, which usually must be part of a dish.) The existence of canned diced tomatoes/tomato puree solves these limitations. Cherry tomatoes are also a kind of tomato that is quite nice on its own.
