D.A.D., my favorite album ever? Just within the past year or so this album has risen up the ranks to become something I deeply cherish. So many weird aesthetics I enjoy are condensed down to less than 40 minutes across six perfect tracks. While, at times, it feels like Out Hud were throwing shit at the wall in an effort to find a specific direction to work towards, much like a demo of sorts, spending more time with these songs makes you realize how planned out everything is. Songs are sprawling yet dense without a second wasted. Seemingly “random” elements, such as the odd interjection of industrial noise or cello and violin segments, ultimately envelop you in S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D.’s own little universe. While this album is certainly something you can throw on in the background, at its core I treat these compositions as an overall experience that, if you want to fully appreciate them, demands your attention. No matter how many times I press play, I always notice something new, which is a selling point in and of itself. S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D. will make you dance, laugh, cry, and exclaim, “What the fuck?” and for that I love it.
