Sleepy little Stubbs you don't know how adorable you are... A manager of a general store found him in a box of free kittens. She chose him because he didn't have a tail! He had his very own office at the upstairs room of the store, where he did very important mayor business (taking naps) Tourists who were passing by the area would stop in Talkeetna just for the main attraction, Stubbs! He had 30-40 visitors everyday and received tons of fanmail. He also had a favourite restaurant, where he'd drink water mixed with catnip and get tipsy in the afternoon. But you can't be a politician without a few assassination attempts. Stubbs was attacked by a dog in 2013. He was in the vet for nine days with injuries in his lung and sternum (t-bone/breastbone), alongside a nasty gash in his side. Donations from all over the world helped pay for the bill, and he was able to recover (though he was now discouraged from wandering around)! Stubbs has also fallen into a deep fryer before, but thankfully it was cold and off. Unfriendly teenagers shot him with BB guns, too (hopefully their parents got mad at them)! The funny thing is, Talkeetna is a mayorless town. There couldn't have been an election, so he kind of just became one! He may be honorary but he's a real mayor in my heart. Stubbs served for 20 long years before passing away in 2017, a rare age to reach for a cat. It's equivalent to a 96 year old human!!! Two other cats owned by the store manager, Aurora and Denali replaced his role as the mayor after his death. Denali peacefully passed away in 2022 and Aurora is still the honorary mayor of Talkeetna today ♡
