SiADThe Dad did it. The note was supposed to distract the mom, that's why it repeatedly says do not call the police or we'll kill her. That was supposed to buy the dad time to go out of town and "pay the ransom" (dispose of the evidence) without his wife interrupting by calling the police. But she immediately called, and everything after was improv. Case closed. PS Handwriting can never be a smoking gun.
