I'm refraining from just reposting my preexisting reviews so I'm just gonna document how my perception of it shifted. My initial review was just "this blows!", listing every nitpick I had, which I still think is perfectly valid. I don't know when exactly but it was like a switch being flipped, realizing all the ambiguity actually rocked. But I still think it's kind of a compelling mediocrity. I am trying really hard to get better at writing reviews and things since I don't have actual exposure to film conventions the way a student would. But what compelled me the most is the irreconcilable rift between the film and the story, the science and the magic. I could go on for days about it really. I think what ultimately killed this is the "best COVID lockdown movie" or something tagline. Not that I care about advertising, in fact my principles are so against it. Or even the implications behind Avoiding pandemic medias, which ultimately results in people not taking public health seriously. But like... it's not exactly helping its case. Nature is a force of evil is also bad. Come on. Why are the taglines sabotaging your work!
