solanum lycopersicum: top on both the world's produce, the average person's knowledge on colloquialisms, and my heart. this is no exaggeration; I love tomatoes more than anything else in the world. I aspire to be like it, from the initial stages of growth, vines that build a body made to trace the earth --- all the way down to the real meat of them, when little yellow flower buds bulb into fruit, viscera that drips and sticks long after its initial bite. this review serves to be a detailed breakdown on the many facets of The Tomato, as well as some personal anecdotes. here's the thing: tomatoes are as much of a concept as they are a physical thing. for all intents and purposes, there truly is no real reason as to why its treated so differently from its berry brethren: sweet and tart on the tongue, the only genuine difference between it and the others is its size, and even that is arguably negligible when you come into cherry tomato territory. the point I'm making here is that everyone knows they are a fruit that parades with the swagger of a vegetable. nine times out of ten, you're finding it as a sideliner of every major meal: ketchup, pizza, curries, etc --- its role in the culinary world is not to be diminished, especially as a supporting character for the main course. it carries this title proudly, not just of its role as is defined of the world, but also of how nature has defined it. does a tomato become any less sweet if those it is relative to lean savoury? if to cook is to retain balance, then why must anyone be limited to the bounds of what is or isn't right? who cares if it 'doesn't seem right' --- it's a motherfucking fruit and that is its goddamned right. I could go on, but in all honesty, it would basically go on for forever; what of its tastelessness in the greater scheme of industrial scale agriculture? the currently wasted potential in the greater minds of the masses? and how in all of this, it is why it is one of the single most popular vegetables to grow by your own means? alas, there is only so much one should type, and sometimes it really isn't that serious. except it is, because this is my intent given to you, the reader. think of this as food for thought; the lines are already here. I'm simply inviting you to look between them. as we reach the end of this review, please consider my takeaways: technical definitions are not the end-all-be-all. embrace yourself in all the ways 'you' can be taken. to be despite; who you are, and what is expected of you. live, with the intent of growth to your fullest potential. live, like the tomato.
