too conflicted to rate this right now. i think a lot of people think of me as big wine person cause i do spend more money on it and read about it more than the average person. but i'm definitely in the bottom quintile of wine nerds. it's truly a beautiful beverage don't get me wrong but i'm really not sure if the alcohol is worth it? i like getting tipsy sometimes but i don't love the feeling i get sometimes that i need to drink to get through a social interaction. haven't had a drink in four weeks because i'm worried about how it would make me feel with my current health problems. so it's a complicated relationship because on the one hand i miss the delicious layers of complexity of a good glass of a wine i love but on the other hand is it just because wine has this culture of intense attention that i feel this way? is there something intrinsic about lemonade or apple juice that means i couldn't enjoy them just as deeply if i tried?

i think at baseline wine is another form of art, and the enjoyment of that art is separate from the consequences of that enjoyment. what makes wine beautiful is separate from what makes ethanol upsetting.
