I stand by what I had written, on 05/09/2024: I do not care at all if anyone takes my stance upon The Smiths as inflated or dramatized, The Smiths retrieved my life and are the reason I still choose to ebb and flow through what is the human condition…though others argue of their perpetual bleakness, to a romanticist such as I, The Smiths granted me understanding, a voice toward the voiceless as some may say, and a voice a weak soul is sometimes not willing to take upon themselves. I remember the first time I listened to Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others (despite the ‘peculiar’ title, I took such at face value and it was the first song I listened to by them, essentially) I was so entranced with the guitar, the bass, the drums, the doorway of a feigned cacophony, I was transported from all agonizing sorrow and bitter envy that chipped at my vitals, they told me a paramount love was still possible; proven by their ability to distinguish such through syntax and melody alone, and I found that even within the dissonance of the lyrics exemplifying so many sectors of a relationship…the physicality and serenity as timeless, I recall instantaneously crying when hearing the lyrics of “Send me the pillow the one that you dream on, and I’ll send you mine...” What simple diction, what an unembellished statement and yet so full of evanescence, glee, mapped in that fantastical world where imagination stipulates, over the supposed mind and body; heart soothes all… I felt characterized by “loneliness” and it would be a falsehood to discern that I often do find parts of myself infiltrated with this ostensible belief—fundamentally (though I am aware I have departed from such a condition; or by way of an idealized self), I have made a companion out of their music, my dearest guide, suitor, colleague… Knowing such I can depart for a effulgent future, that tenderness as my northern star, As Erato whispers to the antithetical wordsmith, "as Antony said to Cleopatra". Also! If an individual somehow sees this sector of my musing, one should listen to The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, I claim it as my favorite, or rather, the song I draw the most succor from, with such a lulling repetition. The demo version is lovely as well.
