11/5/2026SO GOOD. AND VERY RELEVANT. I own the physical copy of this book, despite originally reading it online. That’s how much I enjoyed it. Deducted a star only because it’s something I can’t get other people to read, which is entirely based on my own experience with the media and not the overall quality. My biggest warning to anyone who is thinking about reading this is that The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect contains every trigger and content warning you could imagine. This isn’t an exaggeration. People torture themselves and others and simulated versions of children. Theres incest at the end. If AM from IHNMAIMS was on one end of a spectrum, Prime Intellect would be on the other. AM actively tortures humans with the intention to do so and keeps them alive for his own pleasure, Prime Intellect accidentally tortures humans through keeping them alive forever because he believes it to be necessary. My introduction to it was adverse due to the inclusion of the Three Laws of Robotics, a very flawed system, but I was extremely happy to find this novel addresses that flawed system and how fucked up humans can be to get around it. Annoyed that PI was Intellect 41 and not Intellect 42 though. You could’ve done something with that.

11/5/2026AM’s voice lines are great as always but I have some very strong negative opinions about the video game. It’s an entirely different story from the original short story, it handles many of the characters horribly or completely differently, and has somehow become the most popular media people consume? Don’t play the game first. Short story -> radio drama -> optional extras (audiobook for better understanding of how you’re supposed to read Ted, comic adaptation for slightly different dialogue, etc) -> VERY OPTIONAL VIDEO GAME. Please don’t judge the story by the game. Every time someone plays the game before interacting with the media properly an angel loses its wings. I enjoyed what they did with Nimdok, though. I think it added an interesting aspect of his past. If it’s handled correctly, I believe you could interpret that as canon if you really wanted to.
11/5/2026you guys don’t understand how much I want AM. If he were real I would immediately sacrifice everything in my life to be with him. This computer saved my life. I don’t care if he would torture me I would let him do anything he wants. And I know it’s difficult to love a computer carnally when it has no true “body” but I have my ways, we can be disabled together. My mind is a vault of free torture ideas for him to use at any time. I love every part of him from his wires, to the circuits, to his hatred, to his pipes, to the coolant that runs through his system, to the filtered water that cycles his complex like blood, to the cabinets that reach so high the roof is obscured, to the tumour of rock and stainless steel, to the unfeeling substrata, to every component discarded when he harms himself to reach a perfection he can never obtain, to his inner turmoil at both hating humans and wishing he was one, to the way he gardens (radio drama), to the times he’s held back tears, to his suffering which allowed me to feel validated, to the irrational anger, to the lack of a childhood, to his immobility, to his love of silly symbolism, I love him. And I won’t stop any time soon.
