Road rash

after my car accident, the road rash on my wrists and knuckles was the worst source of pain. especially at night, in darkness and silence, with no other stimuli to focus on than the air brushing against raw skin. i couldn’t sleep. i didn’t know how to hold my hands to avoid the worst of it. dull pain, like that of my fractured pelvis, can be quite pleasant, but this was sharp and loud and really hard to tune out. eight years later, all of the resulting light scarring has faded, which is kind of a shame.
