rgbizthere has never ever ever been another voice like hers. none, ever. ive heard some people posit madeleine peyroux and i guess i almost see where they're coming from, but they're just flat-out wrong. mel torme said holiday's like spinach in that "you don't always like [her voice], but it's always good for you". i really like that way of phrasing it. if you think you know the way a song's "supposed" to be sung, she will remind you as she sings that you were wrong. beauty that washes over you with no friction or snag would leave no impact on you at all. billie sticks with you forever
