rakuruian accurate deconstruction of life under patriarchy. undoubtedly a feminist book, but not a progressive one. quite appalling that in order for it to be truly acknowledged as 'speculative fiction,' and a piece of fiction that mirrors the dehumanising experiences of women all over the world, it had to be done through depicting a white american woman losing her freedom. tv series is no better
