as a series, i really do like splatoon. it's one of my favorite things on earth, i'm so very sure, and i've been a longtime fan for over a decade now (isn't that scary?)... the series i have grown up alongside is something i'll always hold near and dear to my heart. watching inklings go from fatheaded babbling babies to something that feels real, more mature, right alongside me has been the greatest pleasure on earth. from a writing perspective though, splatoon surely lacks. the story modes, outside of octo expansion, have always been mediocre, but i think splatoon 3 totally sealed the deal that the story modes will never be anything thought of more deeply than 'funny squids fight... Octopus!' which is... ugh! i have so much to say but not enough time or characters to say it but i will just say i absolutely hate the magic system that was introduced in return of the mammalians and that i was incredibly fond of splatoon existing in a scientifically plausible, to an extent at least, world that had a lot of thought put into it. i will also say that the octo expansion DLC for splatoon 2 was genuinely lifechanging for me and is probably the pinnacle of nintendo's writing
