The domestic is the most honest domain. It feels sooo good to clean your home on your hands and knees. There is this self-satisfaction that nothing else is equal to when you labour over tidying the home. If you outsource this process, your house will never become your home. Watch any Architectural Digest video these days: those are all merely colourless simulations of homes and homemakers. There is so much joy in intimately knowing every part of your space and in reflecting on its use. Making your home dirty and then cleaning it up is approximately 65% of life, and we might as well get very good at it. This is the difference between living in some uninspired catalog furniture model house and living in a world shaped by you and the crumbs you choose to keep around -- our dust, our books, our history, our extensions of self.
