Great Bell of Dhammazedi
Great Bell of Dhammazedi

I want to preface this by saying that my review is based on purely the bell itself, I do not condone the stealing of the Great Bell whatsoever. The Great Bell of Dhammazedi is the heaviest and largest bell in recorded history, weighing in at 648,000 lbs. The second heaviest bell in recorded history is the Good Luck Bell in Foquan Temple in Pingdingshan, Henan, China, weighing in at 256,000 lbs, making it less than half the weight of the Great Bell of Dhammazedi. The Great Bell of Dhammazedi was cast in 1484 by King Dhammazedi, who ruled the Hathawaddy Kingdom at the time and is considered to be one of the greatest rulers in Burmese history. Dhammazedi was a devout Buddhist and had it cast as a donation to Shwedagon Pagoda, where it stayed as intended until 1608. In 1608 the bell was stolen by the Portuguese adventurer Filipe de Brito, who intended to melt it down to metals in order to create cannons, something that he had a history of doing to other bells. In order to take the bell it was hauled by elephants onto a raft running along a nearby river. The sheer size of the bell caused the raft to sink and the bell was never seen again. Many people in Myanmar (like so many) believe that the Great Bell of Dhammazedi is able to be recovered still and it's recovery will lead to Myanmar becoming a much more prosperous nation, and gather near the river where it was originally lost every year as search efforts for it are carried out. This bell is incredible. Some may see the search efforts for it as futile, some believing it never even existed at all but the sheer size of this thing fills me with hope that I can understand those who want to search for it. Oh my god it's incredible. I don't even have any good ways to reason why but holy fuck. I love this bell so much. I hope to every single god that we find it within my lifetime and I get to see it. Oh my god. Oh my god I love this bell. oh my god

Megatsunami
Megatsunami

Might be controversial due to death toll but megatsunamis are cool enough that honestly I don’t care. The circumstances are so specific that if you die from a megatsunami that’s honestly your fault for living in Themiddleofnowhere Alaska. Megatsunamis are classified as tsunamis over 100 meters, they virtually always occur when a large impact hits a fjord, lake or other confined body of water, giving water no other choice but to form a megatsunami. This is why they primarily only happen in Alaska and Norway, although some standout cases have occurred in other parts of Europe and select islands. This causes the energy of the megatsunami to be very focused on a specific area, dispersing with high energy in all directions, causing the tsunami to fizzle out much quicker and cause typically very minimal damage despite it’s size. We might think of megatsunamis as the bigger, more chilled sibling of the tsunami, but it acts more as a very distant cousin. Megatsunamis are fundamentally different from tsunamis as they develop from entirely seperate events occuring. Any qualms that could be manufactured about megatsunamis come from a very minimal level of destruction and death caused by them over the years, especially in comparison to the more common tsunami. While I don’t overlook this (which is why I have my rating at 4.5, they’re not perfect), I argue that much of this destruction is also not the fault of the megatsunami itself. Climate change has made the very specific circumstances a megatsunami needs to occur much more common, however they still remain incredibly rare and isolated to specific parts of the world, which again, honestly if you’re living in you’re consenting to being swept away by one at any time even if you don’t think you will. Sorry man. If you can’t get away from that that’s all you. In conclusion megatsunamis are fucking awesome definitely #1 natural disaster.

Metaphysics
Metaphysics

Metaphysics is a broad category of philosophy that covers many specific ideas we may think of (theology, free will/determinism, etc.). It studies all that we cannot see. Metaphysics is a confusing thing to wrap one’s head around and while this confusion would usually bring my overall Thing rating down I believe this remains a perfect Thing as the confusion is combatted by the broadness of the field. While the ‘skill ceiling’ for this field is infinite, the skill floor is also zero, provided one can form rational thought. It could also be very reasonably argued that the skill floor and ceiling do not exist at all for this field of study — which I personally find a profound beauty in. While it’s usefulness in of itself can be debated, I believe the use it provides for fields related to it (namely psychology, sociology, etc.) make that ‘flaw’ irrelevant.
