Sir William Bowman, 1st Baronet
Sir William Bowman, 1st Baronet

when traversing and exploring the human anatomy, u will discover there are two types of naming conventions: either they have an accurate, intuitive descriptor of what they are(see biceps brachi two headed arm muscle) or they are named after an 1800’s man: Wernicke’s area, Fallopian tubes, islets of Langerhans, Broca’s area. Fuck these egotistical megalomaniacs. May god help u remember what these things are, from what for all intents and purposes could have been a random letter generator, instead of something so much better. Now why am i telling u this on this man’s wikipedia page? Because here is the one exception, Mr Sir William Bowman, 1st Baronet (apparently) so far i’ve encountered this man’s name one place, in the kidney’s where afferent arteriols meet the tubulus system and filtrate their waste through bowman’s chamber. which is something i will remember the rest of my life, because it’s bowman. a bow and man. the structure even kinda looks like a bow. rip mr bowman, thank u for having such a simple name im sure a toddler could remember it!

Creatinine
Creatinine

even though it’s very similar to creatine, this one is useful so we can see how well ur kidneys are doing their job. see, creatinine is a waste product from cells and is filtrated from your bloodstream into ur tubulus system as preurine. here is where useful stuff is reabsorbed into the bloodstream, but creatinine is an exception, ur body wants it to get the fuck out. so if ur kidneys are healthy, ur blood will contain none of it, so some bloodwork u can approximate ur patient’s glomeluar filtration rate. how neat, everyone say thank u creatinine for being a useful marker, though obviously something is wrong if u have a lot of this feller in ur system

Circulatory system
Circulatory system

u owe this ropey motherfucker everything. concept is to circulate a fluid between the tissue and our lungs (won’t get into that but i’m sure we’ll get to respiratory system as well my lovelies), how to we do that? let’s place a massive fuckoff engine in the middle, with two prechambers and two main chambers and split it down the middle. connecting the chambers and the main artery are valves, which close in different phases due to electric stimulation. so they shoot the blood forth through the system, picking exchanging o2 and co2 through diffusion, where gases want to go where there is a lesser concentration of it, and picking up new oxygen in the alveoli. oh and it’s divided into two, the big/system circuit and the small/pulmonary/lung system.

Glasgow Coma Scale

who assesses a patient’s level of consciousness and responsiveness like her😍 a set of components gives a patient a score where 15 is the highest level and 3 is the lowest. ur supposed to note each individual score as well as the sum, so ppl further down the medical chain can narrow it down. two patients with the same score can be in completely different places. u start at the highest and move downwards, in other words a person with a top score in one category doesn’t need pain stimulus to be tested for the bottom ones. all of these are the patients best display of what is asked. first we’ve got whether they can open their eyes: 4 = spontaneous/like any normal guy opening their eyes naturally, blinking and looking around. important thing is that their eyes are already open without needing stimulation. 3 = to sound/when called to, saying their name. doesn’t necessarily have to be a command, just hearing ur voice and opening their eyes counts. 2 = pain stimulus/opened to pressure. 1 = no eye opening. verbal function: 5 = oriented/can correctly answer «what’s ur name, where are you, what month is it?» and understands the situation. remembering exactly what happened isn’t always necessary, because someone can have amnesia from an accident while still being fully oriented. 4 = disoriented/speaks coherently but seems confused/«where are we?» «uhh, at home?» even though they’re in an ambulance. the important thing is that they’re actually confused or disoriented, not just struggling to remember what happened. 3 = incoherent/recognizable words but no coherent conversation taking place. 2 = incomprehensible/noises and babble, like moaning or groaning without recognizable words. 1 = no verbal response. then motoric function: 6 = movement on command/«raise ur left hand to ur nose» and they do it. 5 = pain stimulus localized/reaches toward the source of pain in a purposeful attempt to remove it. 4 = pain stimulus normal flexion/withdraws limb away from stimulus without reaching towards its source. 3 = pain stimulus abnormal flexion/abnormal response to spot of stimulus, they call it decorticate pattern, curled arms and wrist flexion with bent arms across their body, everything is bending inward. this is an abnormal stereotyped response, not the same as simply pulling away from pain. 2 = pain stimulus extension/decerebrate extension, kinda the opposite of the one above, arms extended and internally rotated, but also often flexed wrists. 1 = no motoric response. now we have a score for our patient, now the good thing about this rating system is that the lowest possible total is 3, even if they’re completely unresponsive (stole that joke from my lecturer, who used decapitation as the example). technically though, the score only applies when the components can actually be assessed. u write it like this gcs = e1,v1,m1 = 3. when u can’t measure a score u record it as not testable (nt) rather than false reporting. for example, if their eyes are swollen shut, that doesn’t automatically mean e1. same with an intubated patient who physically can’t speak, doesn’t mean v1. if a component isn’t testable, u shouldn’t just make up a total score either. i learned from the guys that u go into depth on the whole thing when there are extreme cases where they very much seem to have sustained brain trauma. u can get a pretty damn decent impression from just approaching and introducing yourself. if i walk forward «hello, my name is herman and im from the ambulance, how are you doing today?» and reach out with my hand, then u can start assessing: e = are their eyes already opened and looking at a person who is approaching which is extremely natural, if not are they looking around? if their eyes are already open without stimulation, that’s e4. if they only open them when i speak, that’s e3. they don’t actually need to look at me or track my movement to score e4, the important part is the spontaneous eye opening. v = asked a question, stating my name makes it natural for them to state their own, and most people if coherent will explain why the ambulance has been called. this gives me an impression of whether they’re capable of coherent conversation, but to actually score v5 i need to check orientation as well. someone answering «good» when asked how they’re doing doesn’t automatically mean they’re oriented. m = did they return my handshake? this tells me they’re capable of purposeful movement, but a handshake alone doesn’t necessarily prove m6 because it can just be an automatic social response. to confirm m6 i should give them an actual command, like «can u squeeze my hand and let go?» or «raise ur left arm», and see if they follow it. so basically u can get a really good first impression of their gcs just through natural patient contact, without immediately going into all the different stimuli. but u still need to actually confirm the highest scores before documenting gcs 15. and if they’re already following commands, +and speaking coherentl

only good for aurafarming. the sensation of smoking is not good, the cilia on the respiratory epithelium in ur throat are knocked out of play for up to two hours after u smoke, which is why could and get things caught in ur throat more easily. and any substance u ingest, lets say weed, i would 100x enjoy more than inhaled

Ambulance
Ambulance

a bit biased, as this is where i dream of spending my life, but holy fuck what a great idea. oh we built hospitals, but people need help that are far away... oh yeah let's make a really loud, really visible, really big car that can in emergency break a fuck ton of laws to get there asap. oh a lot of patients need help very quickly, so even the quickest ambulance ride can be detrimental... let's fill the car with tools and meds that at best can cure and at worst limit the injury so we can get the patient to the hospital where they need a specific machine/specialist/whatever. and man them with people who don't have as much training as doctors, but more than nurses, so they know just as much as they need since we need more and the benefit of all the theoretical would be wasted in a prehospital setting. and in norway they are free, so really perfect execution!

Unconsciousness
Unconsciousness

hello everyone, being unconscious isnt the same as being asleep, so im a bit put off with the high ratings? they look really similar, both have a person who has their eyes closed and isnt talking. when ur sleeping, especially during REM, the brain has almost as high function as when ur awake, compare that to actual unconsciousness, where due to some reason ur brain neural networks are hindered or shut down. if ur unconscious u cant be woken, do let me know if im confused and ur rating drug or trauma induced unconsciousness as high

2011 Norway attacks
2011 Norway attacks

22. juli was the worst terror attack in our history. a far right extremist commited two acts, one was he blew up a government building and massacred a youth politics camp. i was 5 when it happened, so i do not remember anything about it, i can only observe the aftermath. i know this may not be a large terror attack or death toll compared to others, but killing 77 people made the rest of us 5 million norwegians realize that we weren't immune to terror and violence. nothing like this had happened since world war 2. a survey was conducted and 1/4 norwegian knew someone affected. a lecturer of mine said that after, he was tired of it all, wanted mourn by himself so he skipped the candlelit vigil/march through oslo and with tears in his eyes he admitted this was the biggest regret he has. and it is heartbreaking to see how common, although always "jokingly" or "edgily", the sentiment of the terrorist is being echoed in online spaces. every comment section there is racism, the n-word is being normalized, and right-wing parties are on the rise. i feel so hopeless and heartbroken for the children who were killed by a man engulfed in an ideology of hate

Glomerulus (kidney)
Glomerulus (kidney)

here we see it, the big dawg, how ur body filtrates excess shi from ur bloodstream and into ur tubulus system for urination or reabsorption back again. it functions by hydrostatic pressure and only small enough objects in plasma can filtrate, i.e. erytrocytes and leukocytes and big proteins cant filtrate so they stay inside the bloodstreeam where we need em. glomerulus is also pretty funny name so i remember it

Apoptosis

final response of our body’s dna damage response and probably the reason why we all don’t have cancer. if a dna mutation is too severe or chaotic, cell division is halted and the cell peaceful breaks itself down to eliminate the risk of cancer. this is why is think is curing cancer is both impossible and inevitable. on one hand, our body has a incredible system for eliminating cancer cells built in, and yeah we get cancer because of mutations of genes that control this, if we somehow help ur body to get to 100% efficiency, we could cure it. then again, with all the potential carcinogens and mutations which happen during a human lifetime, as we live longer and longer and longer with more and more risk for cancer, i don’t see us approaching anywhere near 100% when cancer simply has so many cells and attempts to form a tumor. i may quote young thug, aka jeffery, «fuck cancer, shoutout to boosie, k fuck ur main bitch, i give her cooties»

driving force for why we do a lot i think. physiologically, both the parasympathetic and sympathetic halves of the autonomous nervous system influence male sexuality. which is kinda strange, since parasympathetic is known as the chill rest and digest while sympathetic is fight or flight. why would both influence sex? but that’s the cool part and some creeps invented a rule of thumb: Point and Shoot. point, as in erection, Parasympathetic is required, as the man must be relaxed enough to guarantee that blood isn’t needed elsewhere, as being chased by a tiger. vasoexpansion and relaxed dih muscles gets u ready. then during the course of sex, or masturbation, the parasympathetic control is maintained while sympathetic dominance is slowly building due to a mixture of psychological and physical stimulation. u start to plateau and if u exceed a certain value, u Shoot, as in the sympathetic system takes over. release sperm and muscle contraction. for women it’s the same principle as well, just with clitoris Pointing and Shooting being spasms/contraction and squirt for some. thoug so next time ur approaching climax, via intercourse, masturbation, or a secret third thing, i want u to do something for me. think about how ur body, right now, is being gripped by the same part of ur nervous system that ran away from tigers in neolithic times. how wild is that haha. this part also trips me out (same with bladder) where the autonomous nervous systems halves don’t come that intuitively to me. i haven’t had reprod yet, just touched on it in the nervous system, so might have to spin the block again on this topic after i’ve read the chapter. on the real i often wish i wasn’t a sexual creature

Reflex
Reflex

coolest shit. so fucking useful. the fact that ur central nervous system is essentially hindering all ur reflexes from firing 247 right until the millisecond u need it is the smartest dopest evolutionary invention. the loop is from nociseptor, to sensory nerve, to spine, to motoring nerve and to muscle. simultaneously, sensory signals travel up to ur brain, but since the distance is way more streamlined for reflexes, u retract ur hand before u feel the burn! fun fact for the fellas, ur erection is a (incredibly complex) reflex, a mix of the complicated stimulus which makes u aroused and the physical sensation. so next time u can’t get it up, just explain to her that it’s not her, it’s that damned central nervous system who’s being a cockblock ;/

on his song i choose violence, which starts off with trap bravado and machismo, there one really sobering line for me. «i used to cut myself cause I felt worthless» the rest of this song displays how low confidence/depressive thoughts lead to external agression. this line contrasts that with internal aggression, both «normal» self-harm and substance abuse as relief and a form of self-harm. due to his thoughts, glokk’s gonna choose both
