i apperciate the articles discussion on how it is not primarily a suicidal trait, and the discussion of how it is categorized. it made me laugh to see slitting your wrist next to a tattoo as 'mild to moderate' behavior from walsh and rosen. i think its important to discuss that small acts no one thinks about is "self harm". scratching a scab. picking hair out like your eyebrows compulsively. biting your lips. to treat it like it is something special and uniquely horrifying is how to make people feel more isolated. well written article, satisfied with the way its written and how much information there is to process. shoutout to us with burn scars

i saw you liked my apple review and checked your account on a whim not expecting someone to be using the site like this, i agree a lot, the categorization of self harm acts from picking hair to cutting as acceptable and taboo is so strange and arbitrary and basically completely useless for anyone that isn't trying to make ppl feel bad about it
thank you so much!! i want to learn more on the subjects and if it is effective at teaching them (or what it does succeed at). ive seen this sentiment a few times recently and it really puts in perspective what people decide is socially acceptable and how people benefit from that and how every time when seeing someone struggle in a way they dont understand, it is used against them. its interesting to think about
also the apple one made me smile. a fuji is a classic apple
@fauxcommander thank you hehe its basically the only apple here. i think overall a lot of the discussion about self harm is concerned more with this kind of useless epistemological debate on whether or not self harm can be inherently immoral and not that self harm as we understand it ( cutting burning etc vs biting lip picking brows tattoos etc) is skewed by the mostly socioeconomic interests of psychiatry and the Hegemony at large, theres a lot there
nobody really talks about trichotillomania as self-harm, or scab picking. i think that the way people categorize these as something so broad and evasive as "Body Focus Repetitive Behaviors" almost exclusively led me to not really seeing how intensely this affected me until i started seeing scabs all the time. really lovely review, and sorry for the dump. i've gone through this article a few times and i still think it's very informative given the stigma and discussion around self-harm being so exclusive to one set of actions, though, the inclusion of tattoos did tickle me a little. i like your reviews a lot! :-)
