writing this crying thinking about Mrs Walker, she was my chosen grandma I met at three when she was my neighbor. so much of my childhood was spent at her house, looking at her dollhouse, her figurines; eating her food. when I was 17 she moved back to Chicago to live closer to her living son with Mr Walker. she had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and that spring break I went up to their home outside of Chicago. I spent a week with her early in the disease, she still was very there yet forgetful and she had a special chair that helped her stand up after sitting a long time. she had the biggest laugh and loved me even though she didn’t have to. her love still means the world to me even though it’s been eight years since she’s left us, Mr Walker followed a few years after. Alzheimer’s destroyed her brain and body but it cannot destroy the love I will always have for her.
