Currently, my go-to cheapo budget brand of ciggies. And in a place like California where prices of cigarettes are insanely high, where even RYO looks tempting in the long run, there is nothing wrong with LD, like at all. It smokes like a typical common man cigarette, in fact it's nearly identical to Lucky Strike and therefore Newport Reds. You can't really go wrong with LD, it's even sold by Japan Tobacco here in the States! You can become Japanese by buying this!
11/7/2026The Japanese cigarettes of these will make you smell reallll fucking bad, like diesel. The taste is like diesel with earthy undertones. Like fucking hell mate you better off not going into a train after one smoke of it.
11/7/2026Self proclaimed cigarette for the disgruntled. This shit you smoke when you try to be a poseur wearing a trenchcoat in drizzling rain, but this cigarette isn't fit for it, nor made for it. It is one where you smell like shit because it is shit but that's what make it so interesting.
11/7/2026The western answer to Peace, probably. There is only typically one flavor of State Express sold in California, I Think. The last time I got one it was stupidly expensive that I don't even remember the taste, but I finished it so it must be not that important. I remember it being nutmeggy though.
11/7/2026I never tried personally, but I can say that these filter tips are fucking so overly posh it's almost unnecessary. And this in a positive note! Imagine waiting in the smoking area of Nakayama racecourse, smoking one of what I'm guessing is upgraded Virginia Slims, taking in the super lights taste, and you are an Umamusume fan.
11/7/2026I just think they're boring. The snub-nose of cigarettes without the coolness of one.
11/7/2026Thank god you can access Japanese wikipedia articles. Anyways this one is more of a design-attraction rather than the cigarette itself. It's sleek and recognizable. Beautiful shade of blue on the new packaging, that sexy fucking italic posh logotype design of the cigarette name. I think if I had to choose a design of a cigarette, of all time, I take Hi-Lite. As for the cigarette... I think they're good for what is considered "underpaid black company worker" cigarettes. And you know what is weird, they remind of soda, like Sprite or 7-Up. I wish I was joking or that I'm finally succumbing to a brain damage I never knew I had but it fucking tastes like sode.
11/7/2026Pale little brother to Chunghwas, with more paper taste and slightly bitter fruitiness.
11/7/2026Another certain fact that the Smokers' Committee of California wins again as they roll out American versions of Chunghwa into Asian grocers particularly 99 Ranch. These are truly the gift of the firewall. It's so ultimately unique in taste, it's not necessarily the taste of your usual cured tobacco leaves, you get taste of fruit, sweet like plum that overtakes as the main taste of the cigarette. I love China dude. Will need to try Chunghwas from the source some day.
11/7/2026This is a certainty. I feel that if someone wanted to name a cigarette from the land of the rising sun, it's either Mevius because of the stupid fucking cat anime, or Mevius aka Mild Seven if you are a petrolhead. The greater and more auteur and cool brother of Mevius, Seven Stars, is also brought up as a general insight on Japanese cigarettes, either that or Hi-Lites and Wakaba yanked together. And in many ways, Seven Stars does live up to the hype people would talk about concerning "cigarettes in Japan". It utilizes a charcoal filter, basically a cheat code for a good tasting cigarette. It's taste is almost salty, likely from the charcoal, should be representative of what charcoal filters are in cigarettes. I can only describe it as that, *salty*. Not like cum guzzling but it's like the equivalent to himalayan salted food. It's a salty cigarette, like inhaling barbeque smoke.
11/7/2026Never smoked this because the packaging design looks ugly to me but people are saying it's good.
11/7/2026This is more deserving of a higher score compared to Lucky Strike. There is a clear difference between the availability of such cigarettes that I have to come to a decision based on my situation, and a cigarette that actually tastes good. I'd like to give my thanks to jacobfuknjones and his Japanese cigarette tier list, guiding me as a poor little displaced gaijin in the middle of a Tokyo college campus, and his decision of having three different types of Peace cigarettes as the highest rank. This will be strictly talking about Peace Original filters, the one in beautiful beige packaging, but if I had to give a quick rundown: Peace Lights: high-art, light ciggies just so you don't annoy people The Peace: grandeur, exceptional flavor, riding between the taste of light and full flavored Peace Unfiltered: intense, mouth-fucking, enjoyment Anyways, what was my go-to "heavy in tar and nicotine" cigarette was the Peace Original filters, every convenience store in Japan is really likely to have it. It's just, completely exceptional in everything that makes a good fucking cigarette. Even when that experience of lost wandering has ended over a year ago, the taste of this Peace cigarette still lingers on. I remember it vividly like a summer's kiss, sweet, almost chocolate and velvet, smooth, hints of the Virginia Leaf it promises is completely true. It punches you if you smoke one in the morning, punches you when you smoke in the middle of a smoking area. If I had to give a certainty to a cigarette I would die for it has to be Peace... if I had to means to. If I knew I would have bought that carton, only ended up buying one back to the States. But that immense, exceptional, fucking perfection of a cigarette, not too strong, not too bitter, not too sweet, it shoots at the target like it's another Tuesday. Get this if you smoke, if you don't smoke get this instead and never smoke anything again because it's likely you'll quit faster mentally because you'll find anything like this back home for you.
11/7/2026Ultimately standard but sort of unique tasting cigarette. I was recommended Camel Reds from the Black series, and if I have a say on it, it's a pretty damned improvement on your usual Camel Reds, the Turkish & Domestic blend ones. If I had to prefer one it's the Kamel cigarettes, hard to find but essentially I feel is just Camel Reds with a more lavish, bolder packaging to come with. Also Camel Crush I don't like menthols.
11/7/2026My go-to common man cigarette. What is there NOT to love about Luckies... other than being not the same years ago before being bought out and basically a rehash of Newport Reds, if we are talking unfiltered that's a whole different story. But it has been so long since I smoked an unfiltered Lucky Strike so I cannot say much on it. But as for the filtered Reds Full Flavored, if it's more brand loyalty and recognition as a cigarette brand I will not lie on thar front, Lucky Strike has always been the more "American" representative cigarette brand for me. Ultimately "baseball" as a cigarette, I can talk all day of that famous red whole circle surrounded by gold ring and black text, all over a slightly dirty white background design all day, but the cigarette itself, its by no means a high quality cigarette in respect to higher budget common man cigarettes like American Spirit, or truly luxury cigarettes such as State Express or Dunhill, its rough, yet sweet and a bit of a sour taste, not as sweet as say like Parliaments or Peace. But, there is important distinction, it is defined by its bittersweet flavor, MY cigarette to die on a hill on. If anything I have to represent chain smoking as a sacrificial lamb it has to be Lucky Strike, "It's toasted." motherfucker.
11/7/2026One interesting motherfucker of a cigarette. I can clear it out of the way by saying the lights version sucks ass, but seeking out the full flavored ones (blue packaging with dark grey outlining), that's the spice. It's recessed filter is an interesting design choice but never lets out being a classy sexy fucking cigarette for wagies alike, if you can put down a couple more bucks. Let alone the taste is enough to be refined, smokey like barbeque, smooth and tasty. It's about as close, as 21.8% the way to tasting something as similar as your usual Seven Stars from Japan.
11/7/2026The other cigarette for the masses but at least you picked out a good one. It's particularly good for occasions, not necessarily for chain smoking sessions unless you really fucked up your throat. Turqoise and Blacks are the way to go, those Sky ones are definitely an interesting sort since it has an charcoal filter, something other cigarettes feared because it would make smoking even more enjoyable. But regardless, those are my only top three, people who smoke Orange are not to be trusted.
11/7/2026The tasteless and boring for the masses. Too iconic for its own good when people start smoking full flavored Reds for the vibes because they quite literally know nothing about cigarettes. Laramie cigarettes from The Simpsons probably taste better that's how low the bar is. I digress, however, as I'm complaining about Red full flavors, and only that in particular. I am actually quite fond of Southern Cut and is in my top 4 ciggies to wiggie. Other than that fuck you.
