Neotropical otter

It is like the [dog], [but] a water-dweller. It inhabits the water, it lives within the water. Its fur is like the gopher’s fur—dark, dark hued, soft. And it can in no wise become wet; the water merely flows off of it, as if it were greased. Its food is fish—all which is in the water. ... It is a water-dweller, one that really enters the water; a diver. Its dwelling-place is in the water. It appears just like a dog, a coyote, though tawny. Its fur is slippery, smooth, water-repellent, impermeable, not absorbent. It is white-breasted. Still another account of it has been given under the coyote.
