it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.
11/6/2026cured my depression and absolutely saved my life. Would Recommend :)
11/6/2026i saw them in concert in October 2025. i ate a weed gummy bear at the beginning of the show and i proceeded to have the worst Green Out of my life at that concert. Pure Paranoia. see, i came there because, y'know, i watched the Dream SMP back during Covid and started listening to Wilbur's music to be supportive— i actually really enjoy his old solo work, but i had no reference point for his band's music, and i still really don't even after the concert—so when i saw that they were coming to Boston (i had just recently moved there), i thought it'd be the Perfect Nostalgia Treat for my Inner Child to go see them! i was dressed hellaaaaa cunty, like the Grown Ass Woman i am thank u very much, and i looked extremely out of place. little did i know that Wilbur Soot, and by extension his band Lovejoy, still had a fanbase of Me-In-Middle-School copy-pasted in the year of our Lord 2025. it was very Arson he/xe/they in there, which i say with the utmost love to everyone in attendance. anyway, the high hit me after the opener ended (opener was great BTW). i was a few rows back from the barricade, to the far-right side of the venue. i could tell immediately this wasn't going to be a good high. Wilbur Soot comes out. the Middle-Aged English Male Pattern Baldness being poorly covered by his thinning curly fringe, catches my attention immediately, and i feel my stomach Drop. Despair and Anguish is the only way to describe seeing one of my Covid Era Idols looking how he looked. like a classic English rockstar JUNKIE, just as the rumors claim. but i assure u, i most certainly Am Not The One to be judging others' drug use; his appearance simply Disturbed me (i'm not very nice when i'm stoned). then— it got Worse. some of the most shitty pop-rock i've ever heard in my life begins to play, and there's a screen behind them that starts flashing images and symbols of the most vapid, vaguely edgy, anti-something bullshit i've ever seen, with these crappy psychedelic visuals coming in and out like i'm at a fucking Grateful Dead cover band show projecting a YouTube 1 HOUR OPTICAL ILLUSION TO MAKE YOUR FACE MELT OFF video on 144p (i wish). so, so, so overstimulating. i felt Helpless and Depraved and Naked, drowning in painful white and violet strobe lights and shitty rock music, and my body wouldn't move. i was the ONLY One not dancing, standing there like an Ancient Totem holding the perennial essence of awe-struck, near-death FEAR. i was a deer in headlights. i wanted to cry. the gummy bear told me: Judgement day is coming. staring at Wilbur, now old and balding and sorta gyrating, sweating on the stage, i felt like it was 1968 in the Vietnam Jungle and i was about to die, never to return home, leaving my young wife to raise our baby alone. half-way through the set list, the Vietcong Soldier on stage paused and pointed towards my side of the venue, and shouted, "i wanna see some dancing over there!" i once almost got into a fist-fight after an Alex G concert, and i went to an underground hardcore show once where the singer yelled, "if i don't see the pit going hard for this next song, i'm gonna stage-dive and bite ur fuckin faces off" (great show), and Wilbur telling us to Dance was still the most threatened i've ever felt at a concert. the gummy bear whispered in my ear again: he hates u. he wants u dead. u should DIE. u need to ESCAPE. SAMSARA. RIDE THE TIGER. ASKJHGHFDKJAHFH.... but my feet were stuck to the ground. i bent my head in shame, and prayed for the concert to end. every minute passing felt like nails hammering through my skin; instruments came over me like a flogging whip. when the show finally ended, i was as phantom-tortured with stimulation as Christ was before his death. i bolted to the bathroom to avoid the Wrath of Wilbur that i, high as a kite, knew was coming. i then had an autistic meltdown and threw up water and stomach acid all over the bathroom floor, completely missing any toilet bowl. the concert, i can tell in sober-hindsight, was not good. and the music completely sucks. and, Lesson Learned! don't take an edible before a concert. but afterwards, my friends came to pick me up and we went to a very yummy Greek place to satiate my munchies, so there was a Happy Ending after all. also fuck Wilbur for what he did to Shubble xx.
