I think Bois is best as this Pynchon-esque observer, and the technical side of things here is extraordinary. My biggest problem here is the same with a lot of Bois' work unfortunately, which is this very snide and one-note sense of humor that only really lets up for the big audience-signalling emotional sweeps. Bois is such a creative mind, I only wish he was stronger at straying from his comfort zone. His concepts and ambitions are extraordinary, but unlike a Pynchon, he can't quite evolve his voice to match. A more internet-coded version of the "Well THAT Just Happened...", to a point where his attempt at subversion is always noticeable and the jokes write themselves. But still, it's too monolithic for me not to admire. Sort of like how Homestuck is a billion pages long and much of it is just elaborate bits for forum-dwellers to pop off about. Brilliant executions by men just a little too Quirk Chungus.
