Windbreaker
Windbreaker

My local magazine interviews minor celebs, and one of the standard features is what are some items that you can't live without. I always imagine that I'd be interviewed for this, and I'd jump at the chance to mention how fond of windbreakers I am. They're so versatile and easy to pack that there's almost no downside to keeping one in a backpack so you're ready for any kind of weather. I know they're not the most fashionable, but you cannot beat their practicality.

Charlie Bit My Finger

Looking back on this, its astounding how low the bar was for viral success, and how long-lasting the impact of this was. Its cute thinking how there was some kind of internet monoculture where you could trust that everyone would know this. But as a standalone video it really didn't do much. Funnier moments happen every day in most family's lives, and I feel like watching stuff like this online detracts from ones appreciation of the world around them. Also embarrassing how much this family tried to monetize this.

I really enjoyed the texture and sound of every song on this album. I have such a weakness for combining really solid poppy melodies with distortion and fuzz heavy guitar so this really scratched that itch. More raw than Beach House, which I appreciated. I find their earlier album "Before the World Was Big" very grating as I find twee, purposefully poor singing insufferable. I was surprised that I enjoyed the singing on this album so much. The lyrics really feel like they capture the unsureness but coolness of young adulthood. Fav tracks: Where You Sink (absolutely phenomenal, best example of the sound I describe in the review) Hire (strong Elliott Smith vibes in a good way) Pretty Roses

Kill la Kill

One of the only anime series I've ever enjoyed. I was blown away by the pace and kinetic nature of every scene. I've tried watching other anime, but I can't help but think that they're purposefully trying to pad it out with constant stillness. Kill la Kill is the opposite, like they had so many ideas and bits they wanted to get in, and were just able to go wild with it. The music absolutely elevates this as well. Not every episode is a hit, but the high points are some of the best TV I've ever watched. I thought they did a great job with the dub as well. Favorite Episodes: 3 - Junketsu 4 - Dawn of a Miserable Morning 7 - A Loser I Can't Hate (fight club Mako) 17 - Tell Me Why 18 - Into the Night 23 - Imitation Gold 24 - Past the Infinite Darkness
