I miss when my mom would take me for walks at the mall in the summer and take me to the candy store on the bottom level and get me the blue gummy sharks and I’d be so excited to get home and eat them I’d usually start peeling the sticker off by the time we’d get to route 8 where you see the mall on your right side.

Napoleon
Napoleon

The Son of The Revolution. Everything in western culture is downstream of this man. If Aristotle is Qui-Gon, Napoleon is Obi-Wan. Faked being sick to get leave from the army, only to return to Corsica and immediately work to get His brother elected. Watched His superiors die in an artillery strike and immediately took their jobs and lead his peers into battle (won and captured a fort held by royalists, btw). If you’re a leftist you can appreciate Him for enacting the Napoleonic code, and inventing civil rights (don’t look too far overseas). If you’re right wing you can appreciate Him for rising to the occasion and answering the desperate cries he heard deep within his psyche coming from the children of a Future France. If you drove or walked somewhere today, you can thank Napoleon for making sure the commoner could share a road with the noble. If you woke up in your bed today, you can thank Napoleon for making it so.

Crusades
Crusades

In modern times, most would say the crusaders were an offensive evil military operation towards defenseless friendly Muslims, but the truth is, that interpretation couldn’t be further from the truth! For centuries the western kingdoms and the Abbasid dynasty of Iraq had an uneasy truce, where pilgrims were allowed into the holy land. By 1066 the Abbasids were slowly being conquered by extra-local Turkish bandits and raiders. These Turks became to be known as the Seljuks, and did not grant safe passage, known as Amān in Arabic, to the Christian pilgrims. As a result, the western forces conducted a military expedition to the holy land in order to guarantee the safety of future pilgrims against these Turkish bandits. Modern Muslims make it sound like it was Christians killing peaceful Muslims, but it was actually the other way around! Google the Great German Pilgrimage and you can read all about how the Muslims would let the Turks kill and rape Christians with a blank check.

Spear
Spear

One of our oldest inventions, but far from my favorite. Great when you need to arm an unskilled populace in a short amount of time. It’s a stick with a sharp end, doesn’t get much simpler than that! You have to get this tech tree skill if you ever want to access the nuclear bombs. It might as well be the free square like when you play bingo. Definitely can’t do as much damage as a sword, but like I mentioned earlier it doesn’t take any skill to use. Edge alignment? There’s no edge! Maintenance? Do you have a hammer and a sharp edge? You don’t have to do anything! Even still, I would rush to unlock the longbow ASAP!

Martin Luther
Martin Luther

Most of the problems we have today are downstream of Martin Luther. He introduced the idea of Proto-Wokeness. When you see a young communist DSA member shout down over an old guard Democrat, that’s like the modern version of Marty nailing his list of complaints to the door of the church. Marty’s whole thing was “screw you im gonna do my own thing” if you’ve ever had to deal with somebody who was incapable of compromise, you can thank Martin Luther for it. If you’ve ever logged onto a social media website, read some stupid drivel from somebody, and thought, “why is this person doing this?!” you can thank Martin Luther. If you’ve ever thought, hey somebody should be in charge of something, you might HATE Martin Luther, or if you’ve ever thought that hierarchy was important in some situations, you’ll probably also dislike him. If I could rate him as a 0 I would. Countless wars started in his name, all because he wanted to be a cool contrarian like Jan Huss, who was a pious catholic and is in Heaven.

Hermann Hesse
Hermann Hesse

A great writer for the cerebral individual who feels like they live in the borderlands of life. If you’ve ever felt like a bit of an outsider, Herman Hesse’s stories might intrigue you. My favorite story by him is Steppenwolf, a story about a man who feels a little bit lost, then has a bit of an “extrasensory experience” in a “dream theatre”, and Narcissus and Goldmund, the story of two men who want different things out of life, one a hylic, the other a pneumatic, and how each turns out to be. Hesse was appreciated in interwar Germany, but was heavily censored when the Nazis came to power because his stories celebrate the passionate and erotic (not sexual, but chaotic and desiring connection with humans) experiences of life. He was allowed to live in obscurity during the war, and awarded the Nobel Prize in 1962. “It is the duty of spiritual types to stand alongside the spirit and not to sing along when the people start belting out the patriotic songs their leaders have ordered them to sing."

Jamiroquai
Jamiroquai

Happy to be the first to review! Jamiroquai is definitely my favorite band, and part of where I get my username from. Almost every song by Jamiroquai sounds completely unique, but they all “sound like Jamiroquai songs”. There’s a song for every mood and feeling, even the ones you’ve never had or felt. Outside of their sonic accomplishments, frontman Jay Kay is known for not being a creepy weirdo like many successful musicians of his caliber, and one of his hobbies is owning exotic cars which ranks low on the “evil person scale”. Jay famously crashed a Ferrari during a music video shoot, and paid millions to buy a new one and have it flown in to finish the shoot. If that isn’t baller I don’t wanna get on the court. If you’re not crashing cars for music videos, “you not a big baller!”, like Lavar Ball says. Favorite album is Dynamite, which many core fans see as a bit of a change up from Jamiroquai, and I think it definitely has a more modern sound. As a whole, Jamiroquai is the easiest 5 out of 5 I’ll ever hand out on this website. You know this boogie is for real.

Friedrich Nietzsche
Friedrich Nietzsche

Behold, a man. A titan of a mind fit for the the Mt. Rushmore of continental philosophers. His meditations on the purpose of art being to affirm the human experience and explore the purpose of what it means to suffer have led to great leaps in understanding the human psyche, and how to actualize the best human everyone is capable of being. Ignore associations with racial supremacy, fascism, and other modern no-no’s, since all of that was a facade constructed by his sister and her nazi husband after Nietzsche’s breakdown later in life. How could the writings of a man who wrote with great admiration for the peoples of Africa and the Jewish faith (See: Daybreak/The Dawn of Day by him) be considered a Nazi!? Start with “The Birth of Tragedy” for meditations on art, and “The Gay Science” for meditations on existence and life. “Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.”

Coca-Cola Zero Sugar
Coca-Cola Zero Sugar

Coca-Cola is a lot like the bass guitar. When it’s present and at its best, you don’t notice how much better it makes everything else. When it’s missing, you’ll feel a uniquely shaped void that no piece seemingly fits into. Burger and Fries no Coke Zero isn’t a Burger and Fries worth having. Coke Zero is the one you don’t have to think about, but you want to dream about. The ephemeral space you create when drinking a Coke Zero is a bit like astral projecting yourself through the cosmos without a destination, only a route. By the time you’re halfway through a Coke Zero you start to make peace with where you’re going, even if you’re still unsure. It’s my favorite soda ever.
