Originally named ġeolurēad (an Old English compound word for yellow-red), sometimes called saffron, until it was renamed after the fruit, which was itself originally named in English the norange after the Spanish naranja, until “a norange” was confused for “an orange” so many times it stuck for good. Orange is an excellent color for calm night time lighting as it disrupts the circadian rhythm much less than other colors of light.
