I'm skeptical. The confinement to a screen, the unceasing linear progression, the ability to overwhelm with visual stimuli all give film a hypnotic quality; when watching movies, I sometimes feel like emotions are being wrung out of me through an inventory of psychological parlor tricks. Nonetheless, I like the importance that singular images can assume within a film and within the memory of a film. I like how many people are involved in their production, since it means that every film will be interesting in ways the director not only didn't intend but couldn't have possibly intended.
