- Zamyn-Üüd
lordcactusguy's latest · 2026-11-05★★★★★There's a desolate beauty in wandering this city on Google Maps. Seriously, try it. It's right on the border of Mongolia and China, so by default there would need to be some kind of infrastructure here, but the entire surrounding landscape is one of the most barren environs one can imagine. And yet, still - life endures. Not only does it endure, it thrives. As you enter from China, one of the first things you pass is the "Soyombo Tsogtsolbor," an altar bearing one of Mongolia's national symbols. The Soyombo is a complex emblem, a combination of six distinct elements each with their own significance. To me, this is the epitome of humanity. To take a desert landscape and erect a monument adorned with a symbol only humans can understand. Zamyn-Üüd is humanity. -0.5 cause I would not wanna live there
- Onomatopoeialordcactusguy's latest · 2026-11-05★★★★
Bang! Boom! Crash! A vivacious display; and just a taste of what onomatopoeia has to offer. Certainly, there are some hurdles; for one, it is quite difficult to spell. But if you can overcome the stickler in you and allow yourself to take in the zany uniqueness of onomatopoeia, you may just turn out to be the life of the party!
- Laughter
lordcactusguy's latest · 2026-11-05★★★★Overrated as a medicine. Fantastic otherwise.
- Canadian science fictionlordcactusguy's latest · 2026-11-05★★★★
It's a double whammy - first you think, "oh god, it's Canadian, it can't get any worse." Then you figure out, it's scientific as well. At the very least, the fictitious nature softens the blow, but it should go without saying that this one is not for the faint of heart!
- Epiphany (feeling)
lordcactusguy's latest · 2026-11-05★★★★"URETHRA!" Why do we know the things we know? In short, experience. Day after day, we accumulate knowledge upon knowledge, soaking up a veritable library of information. Here's the rub - the information isn't always connected. You may learn something, and instead of immediately slotting that fact into the annals of your mind, you are left fumbling with it, trying desperately to fit a puzzle piece into the world's largest puzzle. And let's just say, it's not a corner piece. There is the typical approach to this conundrum; the long, hard, but ultimately rewarding process of rumination. You take this information, and you sit with it, carefully analyzing its facets, figuring out exactly how it factors in to the grander web of connections in your mind. "What relevance could this fish have," you may think for instance - before recalling that fish are actually native to the saltwater you are observing. But sometimes rumination doesn't cut it. Often, this defeat is ultimate. But in this midnight hour, in this time of crisis, out of nowhere descends a single, blinding, light: epiphany. The aleatoric nature of this feeling is why it only ranks a 3.5; no human has control over epiphany, it comes and goes as it pleases. Not only this, but it dispenses knowledge with impunity. You could have an epiphany that sorts your life completely, or epiphany could strike and leave you paralyzed with the weight of truth. It can be cruel, and it is by its very nature wild and unshackled, but epiphany is surely something to be revered.
