not perfect, but it really is a good start to the series. books 5/6 have strong tension and put me on edge even as an adult, especially 5 which remains one of my favorite books overall. the emotional beats hit and it's not afraid to throw a lot at you. strong, unique characters. i'm not the biggest fan of firestar but it wouldn't be the same without him. i know the tone is different from the other arcs but it's still a must-read. i don't think any fan should skip tbh. also led to super editions i enjoy (bluestar's prophecy especially, also tallstar's and crookedstar's).
- Warriors: The New Prophecy
bug's latest · 2026-11-06★★★★people are way too harsh on it because of its faults, especially the boring traveling sections. i agree with many criticisms but it brings a lot, especially with some of the characters. squilf especially is a perfect main character to follow after firestar. i find bramble to be interesting and grounded. leafpool is a great addition and her relationship with squilf is adorable. hawkwing is a lot of fun as an antagonist. there's weird stuff with the age gaps for the romance which got distracting. not every pov needed to be there. the bramble/squilf fights were frustrating to read. was more engaging as a kid but there's still a lot to like. squirrelflight and leafpool alternate as my favorite characters in the whole series. shout out to mothwing as well. also leafpool is a lesbian to me i don't think she ever liked that man.
- Warriors: Power of Three
bug's latest · 2026-11-06★★★★i'm so tempted to give it a 5 even though it's the arc of missed opportunities and failed plotlines, just for how formative it was. would be so much better if the follow up arc concluded anything but the seat of your pants writing style is incredibly prominent with this one. meanders a lot. still, judging it by later books isn't entirely fair. in my opinion it has the best main characters - yes, including lionblaze. his early appearances are just good. of course hollyleaf and jayfeather take two of the spots for my favorite characters in wc (of all time...?). i could write essays of character analysis on the three. eclipse and sunrise were so awesome for obvious reasons. weak plot beyond that but the characters make it hold up for me. my 4/5 is definitely nostalgia talking but i can admit that. it was my favorite arc as a kid. sadly tbc doesn't have a wikipedia article but it takes the #1 spot now if you were curious. which checks out for sure.
- Warriors: Omen of the Stars
bug's latest · 2026-11-06★this is what made me quit as a kid. i got so mad back then and i got mad again rereading it over a decade later. what's even going on?? what are we supposed to take away from this??? it's the spottedleaf scenes in the new prophecy but 100x worse and constant and you keep wondering, why are we here? starclan is obviously in the wrong but jayfeather is repeatedly punished for being a voice of reason and this is never addressed. pretty much every conclusion was a disappointment. jayfeather pov sucked especially. just depressing. the writing suffers as well likely due to crunch. page-to-page inconsistencies, over reliance on stock phrases and if you were tired of the birth scenes by this point oh boy well here's many more. great. love it. every flaw in po3 is continued here and is greatly amplified. i remembered the majority of this series from my childhood but had 0 recollection of the later books of oots to the extent that i began to question if i'd quit before it ended. then every so often a familiar scene came up and i was like, oh, no, i did read this but it just sucked. as a hollyleaf fan you know exactly the moment 12 year old me decided i was done. saw it through but i did not make it out unscathed. ivypool and dovewing are fun however. their conflict was frustrating because it could've just been solved by communicating. i wish they'd pushed the spy thing further. still, they're highlights and i'm glad they're here. if i were to rank it on mapleshade appearances alone it would be a 5/5 and i would be sad i could not rank it any higher. love her.
- Warriors: A Starless Clanbug's latest · 2026-11-06★★★
i love frostdawn. she carries, especially at the end. fun plot twists that were executed well. there are things to be said about the themes of betrayal by those you thought you could trust, unresolved parental (maternal) relationships and radicalization. this arc came out in 2022 and i do consider the political climate relevant, as these were things many people suddenly had to reckon with at the time. so much of this arc was boring and padded with summaries of things we just experienced. sadly a crutch this series loves to use to meet that 6 book arc requirement. ivypool's group leaving without explanation and then icestar suddenly being leader was strange. i was like, what? we don't even know who she is. still don't, as of changing skies. also, i have to say it: i hate nightheart. god i hate him. you do not even know the torment i feel thinking about this stupid cat. nightheart fans are a passionate bunch but i am sorry i do not see it. he treats sunbeam horribly. he treats sparkpelt horribly. he learns nothing. i must be honest. worst part of this arc that already had the typical wc mid arc slump. they clearly got bored of him too at the end. which is funny.

it really could go either way at this point. i'm enjoying it but where's the plot? gotta say starling is such a little freak and i'm glad he's here.

my favorites in no particular order: - squilf/s - leafpool - jayfeather - hollyleaf - bluestar - cinderpelt - shadowsight - starlingpaw/flight - mapleshade - breezepelt i miss rootspring and bristlefrost. sorry lionblaze that you didn't make the cut. no hate. you're still up there. i enjoyed clear sky and his pov even though i didn't like dotc that much. i like crookedstar and tallstar, especially in their respective super editions. i've been into scourge lately. moonglow and brightmorning are great and i love moonglow's boring little boyfriend. he is nice. i also like sorreltail, cody, moon, speckle, littlecloud, whistlebreeze and snowbird. i'm a needletail apologist. they had to put frostdawn in the background because if she was still a main character she would have fixed it by now. i'll add more as i remember.
