Matheme

I like the matheme. I like the idea that you can take something as embarrassingly dependent on language as psychoanalysis and reduce it to a little arrangement of letters without actually resolving anything. Lacan wanted something that could be transmitted without being lost in translation, which is a very beautiful ambition for a man who made himself so difficult to understand. I think the failure is part of its appeal. Everything becomes very clean and mathematical and you are still left with the same horrible problem of having a psyche. ♡
