it's really big and runs down my right arm, extending onto the right side of my chest. it encircles almost two thirds of my arm. if you can't see it on my arm, you'll see it on my chest and collarbones when i wear a low-cut top. when i press down on it it turns back to skin color for a slight second before fading back to red. it changes color based on the temperature of my body, a more striking red when i am hot. the capillaries under my skin are fucked up, that's why it's there. i'm lucky it's not on my face and i'm lucky it doesn't grow thick, mangled hair like other people's birthmarks do. my port wine stain is a blessing and a curse. a curse because everyone sees it and stuff, but it's not really a curse. most times i forget it's even there. when i do remember, it just reminds me that i'm different. not in a bad way though. being different, being special, is great. my port-wine stain reminds me that i am destined for greatness. when asked "what happened to your arm" i say that i stuck my entire arm into a burning fire. when i meet new people, go to new places, when i take photos, my first thought is not the large, red stain on my arm. it is my face, my words, the first impression i make through other aspects of myself, and i think that in itself is a blessing. the port wine stain does not impact my life in any way. it is just a reminder that there is a difference between you and me. so i suppose it is neither a blessing nor a curse, it just is. the truth is its existence isn't poetical at all, it just serves as a good ice breaker, a good starter for my college entry essays and a shape for me to trace when bored in class. my mom says it looks like a field of flowers; i think it looks like nothing. it is pretty cool though. the only time i've ever thought it was annoying is when i was trying on different shades of makeup today, and it was in the way. otherwise it's great. im grateful to have this and not have a big gray circular birthmark on my left asscheek like my brother does.
